A recent incident at Delta State University has left students, staff and family members looking for answers after the body of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed was discovered on campus early Monday morning. At approximately 7:05 a.m. Monday, officers on the campus of Delta State University were notified of the body of a young, Black male found hanging from a tree on campus, according to local media reports.According to MBP Online, the body was identified as Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a 21 year-old student from Grenada. Speaking at a press conference at Delta State Monday afternoon, President Daniel J. The discovery prompted the immediate cancellation of classes and campus events, including activities planned to mark the university’s centennial celebration. Some, like Stacie Hoskins, voiced concerns for their safety. “Because I am a Black student, hearing that happened to another Black student really makes me feel unsafe,” she said. Bolivar County Deputy Coroner Murray Roark confirmed that Reed’s body showed no broken limbs or visible trauma, though further examinations are underway, an allegation levelled by Trey Reed’s cousin.University President Daniel J. He was sweet, well mannered, and would give you the world if he could.
