With the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, many corporate houses and content media companies allowed their employees to work from home. Apart from protecting jobs and individuals amidst the layoffs observed during the global health hazard, the remote work option helped companies and employees save precious money and resources. Even as the pandemic left, a lot of companies switched to remote work completely after identifying its benefits. For employees, it meant extra sleep, no travel expenses and daily commute fatigue.
An Indian techie seemed to have taken the most unfair advantage of the transformation that benefitted everyone. A viral post laid bare an illegal act of a software engineer, who paid a portion of his high-end salary to a Chinese to do his work and sent it to his company for approval.
Viral Post Exposes Indian Techie Who Is Fooling His Company
A popular Instagram user brought the matter to the internet’s attention after receiving a message from the Indian software engineer’s roommate, who exposed the techie. Calling it a matter from “corporate kalyug”, comedian Anmol Garg read out a message to his followers where a guy said his techie roommate is paid a salary of Rs 45 lakhs on his work-from-home job. But the techie fools his company, having hired a Chinese worker on Rs 5 lakh pay to perform all his duties.

“Sir, my roommate works from home. He is a software engineer. He doesn’t do anything. He has hired a Chinese guy on contract to complete all his duties. He gets all his work done by this Chinese online and sends it across to his company. His salary is Rs 45 lakh, out of which he pays the Chinese Rs 5 lakh,” the roommate’s message said.
Techie’s WFH Deceit Shocks Internet
As the post grabbed the internet’s attention, social media users came up with a series of interesting reactions to the Indian techie’s deceitful act. In a flood of sarcastic comments over the story, many turned the tables against the roommate and claimed he was jealous of the techie. Others asked why the software engineer shared a room despite earning Rs 40 lakhs.
“40 lakh pe bhi room share kar rha…mtlb akele raho mast raho (sharing a room despite earning 40 lakh),” wrote an individual.
Someone else commented, “Never share your work secrets with anyone specially with colleagues and roommates. Their jealousy can outburst anytime.”
“Wah wah wah. Respect to the guy salute hain,” another individual sarcastically said.
“He is manager material,” quipped a user.
The story reflects very poorly on the Indian techie, who is clearly hired by a multinational corporate leader to earn such a handsome salary on a remote basis. It also threatens to create a scenario where companies pull back on the work-from-home option to keep a close eye on all their employees.
