Dennis Smith Jr. is scheduled to work out for the New York Knicks this week as he attempts to return to the NBA after a year away, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.Smith, 27, last played in the league during the 2023-24 season with the Brooklyn Nets, where he filled a role as a defensive-minded guard off the bench. After going unsigned in free agency last summer, he signed with Real Madrid but appeared in only two EuroLeague games before parting ways with the club in February.The former No. 9 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, Smith entered the league with high expectations as an explosive point guard. Jalen Brunson leads the group, while the offseason additions of Malcolm Brogdon and Jordan Clarkson have strengthened the depth behind him. Smith has dealt with multiple lower-body injuries over his career, which have contributed to his uneven trajectory.
