Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has warned that if bandits are provoked further by the authorities, as peace talks with them are ongoing, the result would be catastrophic.
Gumi, who made the statement at a recent peace meeting on Sunday in the Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, on September 14, 2025, 2025 while acting as a peace broker between the inhabitants of Faskari and a notorious and wanted bandit, Ado Alero, along with other armed bandits.
The former army medical personnel, on 15 September 2025, took to Facebook and wrote,” Some people who don’t want peace will provoke them again by attacking them. It’s very important to educate them that they are used by capitalising on their ignorance and zeal for vengeance,” Gumi wrote.
It was reported that a notorious bandit leader, Isiya Kwashen Garwa, earlier declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters, had reportedly accepted a peace deal in Katsina.
A security and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on his verified X handle @zagazOlamakama (formerly Twitter), stated that Garwa turned up in Hayin Gada community, Faskari Local Government Area, presenting himself as an advocate of dialogue.
The cleric is notorious for speaking on behalf of non-state actions that have become a law unto themselves in the northeast area of the nation.
