A three-day safety and security training workshop for Safety and Security Officers from the 18 Premier League clubs, members of the GFA Security Committee, and the 16 Regional Sports Police Officers, has begun in Accra.
It is under the organisation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in collaboration with the Ghana Football Federa-tion (GFA).
Dubbed: ‘CAF Safe Stadium initiative,’ the workshop, which will run to Friday, is being led by CAF Safety and Security Divi-sion members, Mr Sylvanus Obi from Nigeria and Madam Xololi Nokithula Vilakati from Eswatini.
Under the theme: ‘Promoting Safe Stadium Culture Across Afri-ca,’ the 40 participants will receive intensive training on the applicable CAF safety and security measures, which must be deployed before, during, and after football matches across the country.
Opening the workshop, the CAF 2nd Vice-President and GFA President, Mr Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, said that since his election, CAF Presi-dent, Dr Patrice Motsepe, has always made it clear that he wants football to be delivered in a very safe environment.
According to him, recent
challenges in Ghana prompted the GFA to request this workshop to offer an opportunity for those who lead the security charge for the clubs to exchange knowledge and take home valuable insights to help make football what it is supposed to be in Ghana.
“I think that all of us here have a chance to learn, exchange ideas, share experiences, and take home what will be given to us here,” he indicated.
He tasked the participants to make good use of this opportunity to help make Ghana football what it is supposed to be regarding safety and security.
At the end of the workshop, participants will receive certificates for their efforts and will also be registered for two online CAF and FIFA courses to prepare them for further tasks at the continental and world stages.
