Woman gives birth to twin boys after having sex with two different men on same day

A woman gave birth to twins with two different fathers after sleeping with both men on the same day.

DNA tests revealed that the presumed father was only biologically linked to one of the children.

The 19 year-old mum expressed her “surprise” at the outcome, as she hadn’t thought such a thing was possible.

Originating from the small town of Mineiros, in the state of Goias, Brazil the woman chose to keep her identity hidden.

When her twin boys reached eight months old, a DNA test was carried out on the man she believed to be the father of both kids, reports the Irish Mirror.

However, the results showed he was the biological father of just one of her sons. The woman recalled: “I remembered that I had had sex with another man and called him to take the test, which was positive.

“I was surprised by the results. I didn’t know this could happen and the babies are very similar.”

Despite the unusual circumstances, the twins’ birth certificate still lists just one man as the father of both children, along with the mother.

She further added: “He takes care of both of them, helps me a lot and gives them all the necessary support that they need.”

Dr Tulio Jorge Franco has been investigating this rare pregnancy case, known scientifically as heteroparental superfecundation, believed to be only the 20th recorded instance.

Speaking to Portuguese news outlet G1, the doctor explained that such a pregnancy occurs when “two eggs from the same mother are fertilised by different men. The babies share the mother’s genetic material, but they grow in different placentas”.

He went on to say: “The pregnancy was super smooth, without any complications. The boys were born healthy and have never had health problems.

“It’s extremely rare. It happens once in a million. I never imagined that I would see such a case in my life.”
