An Upper Area Court in Abuja has placed a perpetual injunction restraining Hadiza Musa Baffa from attributing her baby’s paternity to a former minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs, Kabiru Turaki.
Child born outside wedlock under Islamic law – Judge rules
Turaki served as the minister under the-then former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2013.
Delivering a judgement on September 4, Judge Adamu Isah, ordered Hadiza Musa Baffa not to use the result of a DNA test against the ex-minister.
In a verdict sighed by Daily Trust and reported on Tuesday, September 16, the judge said the ruling was about the determination of paternity test of a child born outside of wedlock under Islamic law.
“A perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, whether by herself, her agents, privies, servant or by any other person acting through her or for her from publishing in the social or traditional media, any content, statement, image or material suggesting or ascribing the defendant child born outside wedlock to the plaintiff (Turaki),” the judge ruled.
The medium disclosed that the ex-minister had filed the application seeking the court’s intervention in the alleged use of the police by family members of Musa Baffa, his wife, Uwani Arabi and daughter, Hadiza Baffa to harrass him.
Woman claimed Turaki molested, abandoned her
Hadiza had alleged that Turaki molested and abandoned her after putting her in the family way.
However, the ex-minister alleged that Ms. Uwani pleaded with him to serve as Guardian for her daughter, Hadiza, which he did by seeing to her upkeep without knowing they had changed her surname to Turaki without his knowledge.
Lawyer says paternity fraud is not crime
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a Nigerian lady who is a trained lawyer shared a video which attracted the reactions of her followers on TikTok.
According to the lawyer, a woman can pin a pregnancy on a man, and there will be no consequences.
The lawyer said paternity fraud is not a crime in Nigeria, insisting that there is no law that makes it a crime.

One in four paternity tests in Nigeria disproves fatherhood
Elsewhere, Legit.ng reported that Smart DNA’s 2025 report shows that 25 percent of paternity tests in Nigeria disprove assumed fatherhood, with firstborn children most affected.
The report also revealed a surge in immigration-related DNA cases as more families seek documentation for relocation abroad.
Operations Manager Elizabeth Digia urged reforms, integration of DNA testing into health programs, and new laws to address paternity fraud.
