The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio found 89-year-old Roger Stachler alive and conscious in a cornfield on Tuesday morning, after a multiagency search that included drones, local fire departments and state aviation resources.Why It MattersStachler was reported missing from his home in St. Henry on Sunday. His wife told officials that when she returned home from work, she was unable to find her husband.The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the St. Henry Police Department, St. Henry Fire Department, Coldwater Police Department, Coldwater Fire Department, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio State Highway Patrol’s aviation unit, Celina Fire Department’s dive team, Southwest Mercer Fire Department, Burkettsville Fire Department and Chickasaw Fire Department. The sheriff’s office also received assistance from the local Child Abduction Response Team, which can also be used for missing and endangered adults.”Sheriff Doug Timmerman would like to thank all the community members, first responders, Elite Drone Services and all who volunteered their time to help in bringing Mr. Stachler home to his family,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.What To KnowStachler was last seen at his home at noon on Sunday when his wife left to go to work.Deputies located Stachler at 8:05 a.m. on Tuesday in a cornfield about 200 yards east of a wooded area behind 1821 State Route 118.Les Bowen, the owner/operator of Elite Drone Services, advised the deputies of an area of interest on Tuesday. Deputies and members of the St. Henry Fire Department were then able to locate Stachler.Additional personnel responded to the area to assist in safely getting Stachler out of the field.The search area included Stachler’s residence and outbuilding, a wooded area, a soybean field, ditches, corn fields, a hay field, neighbors’ yards and outbuildings, and two ponds on neighboring properties. Officials also searched local restaurants, hospitals and churches.The sheriff’s office previously said officials have no reason to believe that foul play was involved.Officials also utilized thermal imaging and infrared heat detection devices during the search.What People Are SayingMercer County Sheriff’s Office, in a statement: “Sheriff Timmerman would also like to express how proud he is of the Mercer County community and the outpour of support from the local businesses and how everyone comes together in a time of need.”Elite Drone Services, on Facebook: “We are incredibly thankful for the teamwork between the Sheriff’s Office, detectives, Firefighters and EMTs—and most of all, we are grateful that Mr. Stachler was found and is receiving care.
