Russell Martin has been told his attempt at Rangers team bonding would have been painful for his stuttering squad. The under-fire Light Blues boss took his players wild water swimming and a walk up the 361-metre Conic Hill . Martin organised the events as part of a day out in an attempt to change the scenery in the hope the players can reset after a torrid start to the season. Rangers haven’t won in five Scottish Premiership games and could be bottom by the time they play in the league again. And, with a rare free midweek before their Premier Sports Cup quarter final clash with Hibs, Martin took the opportunity to use the spare time by exploring the outdoors rather than on the training ground. Former English Premier League player Jamie O’Hara savaged Martin for that and claimed he would have been better organising a different type of event which would have grabbed less attention. The ex Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves man told Sky Sports: “If I was a player I would be absolutely fuming. Why would I want to go swimming in Loch Lomond on a team bonding session? “Give me some golf clubs or get the fishing rods out and go out on the boat for a day. What are you talking about going swimming? It’s freezing. How is that a team bonding session? That’s pain. “And then you want me to go and walk up a mountain? Come on. Russell Martin is getting it all wrong, that is not team bonding. He’s trying to make it worse. He’s never had the dressing room. “I’m all for team bonding, go and have a night out or go for dinner. I mean seriously? Come on. And if you’re organising a team bonding session four or five games into a season, you’ve got serious problems.” Follow Record Sport on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.
