Joe Erwin, founder and owner of the Greenville Triumph professional soccer team and the Greenville Liberty pro women’s team, is stepping down as chairman.
Erwin, 68, will remain the owner and serve on the boards, according to a news release. He established the Triumph in 2018 and the Liberty in 2022.
“From my days playing soccer at Eastside High School,” Erwin said, “to watching the Triumph lift trophies and seeing young girls inspired by our Liberty players, this journey has exceeded every expectation.”
The Triumph and Liberty are moving to a new home in 2026. They will share a 10,000-seat facility called Bridgeway Station in Mauldin.

“I’m incredibly proud of what we are building together,” Erwin said. “Not the wins and the trophies but the connections we are forging with the young people we are inspiring.
“… Sports have this incredible ability to bring people together, to celebrate, to cheer, and to unite people of different backgrounds. That’s why we chose the name Greenville Triumph SC. When we’re together, our community truly triumphs.”
The Triumph open the 2026 season in March, although the schedule has not been released. The Liberty’s season begins in May.
