‘Perfect Days’ spent pondering the Japanese potty

Earlier this year, I was on a panel offering insight into Japan for senior European business executives, the majority of whom were visiting the country for the first time. When the moderator made the usual call for last thoughts, desperate to leave the audience with something they would remember, I blurted out “toilets!”That wasn’t a Tourette-like moment of panic. It was something I’d been thinking about for some time and thought these folks might appreciate (and take note of).Go ahead, laugh. Most of the audience did, albeit a touch nervously. I was serious, though. Toilets provide a fascinating and informative window on Japan.
