Television star Davina McCall became emotional as she confessed “I’ve got to do some work” while continuing to process the psychological impact of her brain tumour diagnosis. The former Big Brother host, 57, was stunned to learn she had a tumour during a standard health screening last year, which led to surgery in November. She appears to be recovering well after doctors found that the growth was benign and needed no additional treatment following the procedure. However, she revealed to Giovanna Fletcher on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast that she still finds one element of the condition challenging nearly a year on from her diagnosis. Davina became tearful as she shared: “I knew if I got through it, this would be the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I do feel so grateful still. But I know I’ve got to go back and do some work on this because I can’t do this, I can’t talk about it without feeling like this.” In one of her initial Instagram updates after the November operation, she informed her supporters that her short-term memory had been affected: “My short-term memory is a bit remiss.” She continued: “But that is something I can work on, so I’m really happy about that. I’m writing everything down, to keep myself feeling safe.” Davina revealed she had almost cancelled the routine medical appointment that uncovered her brain tumour. Speaking on BBC Woman’s Hour on Friday, Davina revealed her reluctance about attending the appointment. She said: “I don’t need a health check, I’m Davina. I’m healthy, I’m fitness lady, that’s what I’m known for. I felt fantastic, I felt the best I’ve felt in years.” Following considerable deliberation, Davina eventually chose to take the plunge and finally undergo her health assessment after years of using sunbeds. Meanwhile, last week it was revealed that Davina and partner Michael Douglas were engaged. The duo had been friends since the early 2000s but only started courting after her marriage to Matthew Robertson concluded in 2018. Sharing the news live on air, Richard Madeley told Good Morning Britain viewers: “Finally, as I wrap up this morning, lovely news to announce that Davina McCall is engaged, our very own!” He continued: “Davina has been with her celebrity hairdresser and beau Michael Douglas for seven years now and the pair are finally tying the knot.” Davina is most recognised for her work on programmes such as Big Brother and Long Lost Families. She has recently made a comeback to our screens with Stranded on Honeymoon Island on BBC. The new show features Davina as presenter whilst a group of single contestants find themselves stranded on a tropical island.
