Sioux City School District expels one student on Tuesday

SIOUX CITY — The Sioux City school board voted to expel a student on Tuesday afternoon, marking the first expulsion of the school year.
The board held a closed session for the student, only identified as Student A. The board members voted 6-0 to expel the student for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year as reccomended by the superintendent.
Behind closed doors, board members discussed each student’s case before voting to approve Superintendent Juan Cordova’s recommendations of expulsion. It was not publicly stated which schools the students were being expelled from, nor the reason.
Last year, the district expelled 26 students. Some of the expulsions were stated by the school board members to be caused by fighting.
