Lil Nas X plead not guilty to felony charges, enters treatment program

American rapper and singer Lil Nas X, best known for his global hit “Old Town Road,” has pleaded not guilty to felony charges after his arrest in Los Angeles last month, following a bizarre incident in which he was spotted walking nearly naked through the streets.

As reported by Billboard on Tuesday, the 26-year-old artist, born Montero Hill, was not present in court on Monday, September 15, when his lawyers appeared on his behalf. Los Angeles Judge Shellie Samuels told the court that the rapper is currently undergoing treatment outside California.

“We’re not going to get specific about where he is,” Judge Samuels said. “It’s private, nobody needs to know where he is, but he is in treatment.”

The court kept Lil Nas X’s bail at $75,000 and adjusted his release conditions to allow him to remain out of state. His next hearing is scheduled for November 18.

Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, defence attorney Drew Findling declined to provide details of the treatment but stressed that it was in the rapper’s best interest.

“We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint, and a professional standpoint, but most importantly for his well-being. He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him. This is a bump that he’s gonna get over,” Findling said.

Lil Nas X was arrested in the early hours of August 21 in Studio City, Los Angeles, after being recorded walking in his underwear and cowboy boots. Authorities allege he resisted arrest and attacked officers during the confrontation. On August 25, he was charged with four felonies after allegedly charging at police who went to pick him up during a naked stroll through Los Angeles last week.

The case has drawn widespread attention not only for the unusual circumstances of Lil Nas X’s arrest but also because it follows his recent disclosure of a health scare earlier this year, when he revealed he was recovering from partial facial paralysis.

With his next court date set for November 18, the focus now shifts to both his legal battle and his ongoing treatment, as fans and the music industry watch closely to see how the star navigates this turbulent chapter in his career.
