A CROSS-NATION summit – bringing together Education Ministers, school leadership unions and senior officials from across the British Isles – is to be hosted in Jersey.
The event, organised by school leaders’ union the National Association of Head Teachers, is being held at the Grand Jersey on Thursday.
Representatives from Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, England and Ireland are due to attend the event, which it is hoped will become annual.
Education Minister Rob Ward, will open the summit, which will focus on the importance of cross-border co-operation in tackling shared challenges such as workforce sustainability, inclusion, and student wellbeing.
He said: “We want every child in Jersey to thrive. Every teacher should feel valued and supported, and every classroom should embrace the power of technology. We’re investing in our teachers, embracing digital tools, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.
“Change in education starts with teamwork. When teachers, families, leaders and communities unite around a shared ambition, we can deliver real results for every child and young person in Jersey.”
The day’s agenda will include high-level discussions on system leadership, equity in education, and preparing learners for a rapidly changing world.
Paul Whiteman, general secretary at NAHT, said: “School leaders and teachers across our nations are united in wanting to deliver the best possible start in life for pupils.
“Equally, we all face challenges in doing this, but challenges are there to be overcome, and there are also opportunities to be seized as we help children navigate their learning and prepare for a fulfilling future beyond school or college.
“This inaugural summit is an exciting opportunity to draw on people’s different experiences and ideas across our national borders and share best-practice for the benefit of children and young people.
“We’d like to thank the Government of Jersey for hosting this important event.”
