This morning’s independence celebrations in Mt. Hagen, Western Highlands Province, began with a flag raising at Independence Hill.

The event was witnessed by dignitaries, the business community, and locals, all commemorating 50 years of nationhood.

This historic moment was led by Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa.

Joining the Governor were more than 50 members of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) – Moem Barracks and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, who performed a gun salute and led the ceremonial parade with pride and precision.

More events will follow, including a grand fireworks display tonight at Queen’s Park in Hagen town.
