A viral video from inside a train compartment is making waves online, showing a woman smoking while arguing with a co-passenger who reminded her that such an act inside is illegal and asked her to move outside. This incident has also revived memories of the 2022 case where social media influencer Bobby Kataria was seen smoking inside a SpiceJet aircraft.
Public smoking inside shared transport has often raised concerns not just for health but also for safety. While trains and flights clearly ban such behaviour, incidents continue to surface.
Train Video Sparks Row
The video shows a woman seated in an air-conditioned compartment, cigarette in hand, when a co-passenger begins recording her. The moment she notices, she confronts him, asking that the clip be deleted.
The woman says, “You are making a video. This is very wrong. Tell him not to make my video and delete it.” The man replies, “Smoking is illegal. Go smoke outside.” As tempers rise, she responds, “I am not spending your money to smoke. This is not your train. Go call the police.” The argument captured on camera was shared online, sparking debate about enforcement and passenger conduct.

Railway Seva Steps In
Railway Seva, the official support account on X (formerly Twitter), said the matter had been forwarded to concerned officials. Online, many users demanded strict action against the woman.
Flashback To Bobby Kataria Case
In August, a video surfaced online which showed Kataria lying down in the rear section of a SpiceJet aircraft and lighting a cigarette. The clip was widely circulated and was flagged to the Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who said there would be “no tolerance towards such hazardous behaviour.”
Kataria later claimed, “The video in which I was seen smoking was a dummy plane and that was a part of my shooting in Dubai. Taking lighter inside the plane is not allowed,” according to ANI. But his statement contradicted with SpiceJet’s version of events.

Action Taken Against Bobby Kataria
SpiceJet confirmed the incident took place on January 20, 2022, when passengers were boarding flight SG 706 from Dubai to Delhi. A spokesperson said crew members were busy with boarding procedures and unaware of what happened in the rear rows. The airline said it came to know of the matter on January 24 through social media posts.
SpiceJet at the time stated that a complaint had been filed with Gurugram Police, and Kataria was put on a no-flying list for 15 days in February 2022.
