When it comes to hair tools, ghd is often the go-to, revered for its salon-quality performance and sleek design. But the wares come with a premium price tag, which is why a discount is always welcome – and we’ve spotted a deal at LookFantastic that beats other major retailers.
The ghd Max Wide Plate Hair Straightener has dropped from £209 to £156.75, saving shoppers £52.25. That’s significantly cheaper than Boots and the official ghd store, where the styler remains at its full price of £209.
This wide-plate model is designed specifically for long, thick or curly hair, boasting 70% wider plates than ghd’s original stylers. The extra surface area means users can straighten more hair in one pass, cutting down on styling time.

Its patented heater system maintains a consistent 185°C across both plates, making it the optimal temperature for styling without excessive heat damage. It also has a 30-second heat-up time (ideal for busy mornings) and an automatic sleep mode that powers down the straightener after 30 minutes of non-use for peace of mind.
Even with the discount, though, some shoppers may not want to splash out over £100 on a pair of straighteners. With that in mind, there are plenty of other options.
That includes Revlon’s Smoothstay Coconut-Infused Hair Straighteners, which are currently down to £24.97 from £29.99 at Amazon. They have rounded edges, helping to transform them into curling irons when needed, and they come with a free travel pouch.
Otherwise, these Faszin Professional Hair Straighteners are reduced to £102.99 from £153.99. I tried these earlier this year, and was seriously impressed. They transformed my hair from unruly and fluffy to sleek and polished in under five minutes, and the extra-wide 42mm plates allowed me to glide through larger sections of hair in a single pass.
Back to the ghd Max Wide Plate Hair Straighteners, they’ve received some great reviews via LookFantastic. This happy shopper said: “They are perfect for my thick, coarse hair. It gets through all of my hair so quickly and leaves it super silky and smooth.
“They also create the most perfect curls! Heat up so quickly and go off by themselves when you haven’t used them. 100% recommended.”
Meanwhile, someone else chimed in: “I have very thick hair and these are so easy to use, leaving it shiny and sleek with no frizz.”
However, this mixed review reads: “ghd are such good straighteners, but this model is definitely not as sturdy as past wide plate models. They straighten hair 100% but I’m not sure if it will last as long as my others.”
But on a more positive note, this Max Wide Plate Hair Straighteners fan said: “These were an upgrade for me since using the same pair of cheap straighteners forever.
