CAIRO, Sept 14 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Sunday underlined the government’s keenness to secure the availability of medicines and medical supplies in the local market, either through domestic production or imports, to maintain a safe stock.
Chairing a meeting to follow up on financial allocations for the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority (UPA), Madbouly emphasized the need to ensure sufficient funds for the authority to cover procurement operations and settle dues with suppliers to avoid debt accumulation.
Health and Population Minister and Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development Khaled Abdel Ghaffar highlighted efforts to localize pharmaceutical production, reduce reliance on imports, and ensure medicines are available in hospitals and pharmacies, alongside tighter market monitoring.
Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk stressed the government’s commitment to stabilizing supply chains and securing liquidity for pharmaceutical companies, while UPA Chairman Hesham Sateet pointed out that the authority’s new electronic procurement system prevents the build-up of arrears.
The meeting also reviewed steps to strengthen UPA subsidiaries as strategic state assets in the health sector, in line with Egypt’s strategy to enhance healthcare services and drug security.
Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed El Homosany said the talks focused on ensuring sustainable financing for medical procurement and timely payments to suppliers. (MENA)
