After breaking out in his rookie season, Jacksonville Jaguars star wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. naturally had some high expectations placed on him to be even better in 2025. But thus far, he hasn’t had the kind of impact that most would expect. And Jaguars head coach Liam Coen hinted at why during a press conference on Monday.Despite seeing 19 targets in the first two games of the 2025 season, Thomas has been able to haul in just five receptions for 60 receiving yards. Not exactly the kind of play that most would expect out of a player coming off a Pro Bowl appearance in his rookie season.More news: Bengals Receive Harsh Prediction After Joe Burrow InjuryOn Monday, Coen addressed the slow start to the season from Thomas thus far. And interestingly, Coen alluded to a wrist injury that Thomas had going into the game that he believes could have been a contributing factor in his Week 2 struggles.”Yeah, we’re going to have a conversation here shortly,” said Coen of Thomas. “I know he’s got a couple things going on, a wrist injury going into the game. Did that play a part in some of this stuff? I’ve got to go talk to him. But I think he’s aware of it and needs to have a better week this week. He understands what’s at stake. We have to get to the root of it.”It’s particularly interesting to see Coen speak about the injury for Thomas, considering it was not public knowledge going into the game.Thomas was not listed on the team’s injury report in any capacity leading into Sunday’s game. So it either wasn’t serious enough to note or the Jaguars simply opted not to include him on the injury report for whatever reason.Either way, a wrist injury would help explain the rather troubling start for Thomas, who was profiled to be one of the best wide receivers in all of football coming into the 2025 season.More news: Chargers Make Decision on Injured Pro BowlerIt’s unclear at this point how severe the previously undiagnosed is or whether it could be a long-term problem for Thomas. But hopefully, whenever Thomas does get healthy, we see a return of the player who appeared destined to be a superstar at the NFL level throughout his rookie season. For more on the Jacksonville Jaguars and all things NFL, head over to Newsweek Sports.
