Indian Techie Feels 72-Hour Work Week at AI Startup Is ‘Rewarding, Not Daunting’

An Indian software engineer claimed he enjoys putting in extensive hours at work and takes pride in contributing to the growth of his company. Pranav Mehta, who works for a growing AI startup called Mercor, said he finds the company’s policy of a 72-hour work week, which “occasionally stretches to 100”, satisfying and rewarding.
In an age where social media is rife with debates on work-life balance and the mental health of employees at India’s corporate powerhouses, Mehta emerged as an oddity. “The 72-hour work week might sound daunting at first (occasionally stretches to 100). But the growth, the learning curve, the pace- is truly unmatched,” he wrote on X.

Fastest growing company of all time.

A comfy 40-hour week won’t offer the same upside. Not the same energy, not the same… https://t.co/m3K4xTWVBn

Indian Techie Finds 72-Hour Work Week Rewarding
The experienced software engineer revealed Mercor’s advanced working hours in his attempt to uphold CEO Brendan Foody’s vision on Twitter. In a separate post issued on Monday, September 15, Foody reiterated his company’s pitch as the world’s fastest-growing company because of its early revenue.
The CEO claimed his AI startup has grown from $1 1 to $500 million in revenue in just 17 months. According to a report by TechCrunch, Mercor has ambitions of reaching a valuation of $10 billion in the near future.
“Mercor scaled from $1-500M in revenue run rate in the last 17 months, making us the fastest growing company of all time. Our growth is accelerating. We averaged 11 per cent week-over-week growth in July, 18 per cent WoW growth in August and 19 per cent WoW growth in September,” the CEO of Mercor posted.

“While everyone fears job loss, we’re creating a new category of knowledge work faster than any other time in history. The future of work will converge on training agents.”
Techie Looks Down Upon ‘Comfy 40-Hour Week’
Mehta, who previously worked for Microsoft, believes the traditional 40-hour work week at corporate jobs is not conducive to the growth of the companies and their employees. “A comfy 40-hour week won’t offer the same upside. Not the same energy, not the same rewards,” he said.
The techie took pride in contributing to Mercor and felt it was a “privilege” to play a part in building the world’s fastest-growing company.
