Fever surveillance and anti-larval work and mosquito control fogging have been intensified in Tiruchi district in the wake of the monsoon and rise in fever cases across the State, Collector V. Sarvanan has said.
In view of the possibility of a rise in vector and water-borne diseases during the monsoon, the Health Department has intensified preventive measures in the district, Mr. Saravanan said in a press release.
“On an average about 100-110 persons with fever are treated as inpatients in government and private hospitals in the district. Over the past one month, 1,615 cases of fever, four cases each of dengue and scrub typhus and one case of leptospirosis have been reported. All the patients have undergone treatment and recovered,” he said.
Supply of chlorinated water is being ensured by the local bodies concerned. All drinking water storage tanks are being cleaned once every 15 days. Vigil is being maintained against line leakages and identified leakages are being plugged immediately.
Medical camps are being held in places where incidence of fever is detected. Medical teams are also monitoring school children. Persons requiring follow up treatment are referred to the nearest government hospital.
Residents must take adequate precautions and keep clean their surroundings clean and ensure that there is no stagnation of water in discarded tyres, coconut shells and other containers. People must drink boiled water and those with fever should have adequate fluid intake to prevent dehydration treatment at the nearest government hospital. Persons reporting with fever at colleges or schools should be promptly referred to hospitals, he said.
