Picturesque Scottish train journey crowned best in Europe beating Switzerland route

A Scottish railway journey has been named the best in Europe. It beat out picturesque routes in Switzerland, Wales, and more. A recent study carried out by FruityKing crowned the top train routes across Europe . To put together the list, the experts looked at thousands of reviews from travellers. According to FruityKing, the best railway trip in Europe is the Kyle Line in Scotland. The scenic route takes passengers between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh. The Kyle Line was found to have the highest overall rating amongst customers of any European train journey. The experts stated that the average passenger rating of the trip is 4.72 out of five. A one-way ticket from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh is priced at £32 on the ScotRail website . Meanwhile, a return journey costs £64. According to ScotRail, one of the highlights of the journey is the Torridon Hills. The beauty spot can be spotted to the west, just before the stop at Achnashellach Forest. Meanwhile, the rail operator also singled out herds of deer and Ben Wyvis as other top sights along the Kyle Line. Deer can often be seen along the downhill route from Loch Luichart to Garve, while Ben Wyvis is a dramatic mountain that is visible between Muir of Ord and Dingwall. ScotRail also recommends that passengers stop at the settlements of Plockton and Attadale. The former was praised for its scenic bay, while the latter was singled out for Attadale Gardens—which is renowned for its sculptures and natural beauty. ScotRail states: “Travel coast to coast across the Highlands, in the shadows of mountains and forests, beside bright lochs and wide open moors. The Kyle line draws a wide arc from Inverness to the shores of Loch Alsh, taking in spectacular Highland scenery—and finishing with magnificent views of Skye. “Just outside Inverness lies Dingwall, a pretty market town that’s perfect for a stop off or a connection to the Far North Line. “From there, the train takes you past lochs and moors as you travel through the Highlands. Keep an eye out for one of the most distinctive mountain ranges in Scotland, the Torridon Peaks, looming out of the north. “On the final stretch of the journey, the train picks its way along the coast south to Loch Alsh.” As reported by The Scottish Sun , the Isle of Man Steam Railway was named the second-best railway journey in Europe. It was found to have an overall rating of 4.71 out of five. Meanwhile, other train trips to be named include the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways journey and the West Somerset Railway line. The famous Bernina Express in Switzerland also appears on FruityKing’s roundup. More information about the Kyle Line can be found on the ScotRail website .
