The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will step up the passenger feedback mechanism at Chennai airport with short-term and long-term initiatives to be planned for better maintenance.
While addressing the media, the new airport director M. Raja Kishore said, passenger feedback will be vital for AAI and on a real-time basis they will take action. “We will take steps to provide some immediate relief over the issues. We will take up short-term planning and long-term planning related to infrastructure issues and try to resolve them,” he said.
He noted that 25 % of the construction of the T3 International Terminal has been completed and its deadline has been revised to June 2026. This terminal’s deadline was December 2025 earlier.
As part of ‘Yatri Seva Diwas’ organised by AAI on September 17, to promote passenger welfare, officials said, there are portals already to register passenger feedback. “We plan to address the issue raised by the passenger and send a response to him,” C. V. Deepak, outgoing director of Chennai airport said.
To a question on why the passenger traffic was not increasing in Chennai and why more airlines prefer Bengaluru over Chennai, Mr. Raja Kishore said, airlines operate based on passenger demand. He said, if the occupancy is less in Chennai, they will want to close that route. Mr. Raja Kishore also said that there are many software companies in Bengaluru and the ecosystem in that city is such that many travel abroad from there for work, thereby drawing airlines.
While talking about ‘Yatri Seva Diwas’, officials said passengers at Chennai airport will be welcomed. Folk dance performances will be held at the terminal and children visiting the airport will have a quiz and painting competition. There will also be selfie photo booths set up in many locations for passengers. There will be blood donation camps and health check-up kiosks.
