The fifth edition of the World Teak Conference (WTC), a leading platform on teak conservation and trade, will begin at the Grand Hyatt Hotel here on Wednesday (September 17).
India is hosting the summit for the first time. Rajesh Ravindran, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, will inaugurate the three-day event, which will commence at 9.30 a.m. K.P. Sudheer, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, will chair the inaugural session.
Keynote addresses will be delivered by K.B. Singh, Inspector General of Forests, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Sheam Satkuru, executive director, International Tropical Timber Organisation, Japan; and Hugh Brown, chairman, International Teak Information Network (TEAKNET), according to a release issued here.
Over 350 delegates from over 40 countries, including forestry scientists, policymakers, researchers, and trade representatives, are expected to attend the event, focusing on sustainable teak management and the future of the global teak industry.
