This Dog Isn’t Blind, He Is Ignoring Everyone By Choice. Internet Loves ‘Savage’ Behaviour

Don Luis is a rescue dog from Fundación Santas Patitas, an animal rescue organisation in Chile. His story caught the attention of many because of his unusual personality. For a long time, his caregivers thought he was blind. He didn’t respond to calls or any movement around him, which made them worry about his health.
But after a visit to the veterinarian, they discovered something surprising. Don Luis wasn’t blind at all. He could see perfectly well but simply chose to ignore people when he wasn’t in the mood.
He Was Rescued After A Serious Accident
In 2023, volunteers from Fundación Santas Patitas found Don Luis after he had been hit by a car. At first, he was aggressive and growled at everything.
“At first, he was an aggressive dog. He would growl at everything,” Javiera Santander, the founder of the organisation, told The Dodo. Over time, with patience and care, Don Luis slowly started to trust humans.
Soon his rescuers noticed that something seemed off. Don Luis appeared to be lost in his own world. “When we spoke to him, he would just look around the room,” said Santander. “When we would call him to come in from the outside, it was like he couldn’t see us,” he added.
Worried he might be going blind, they took him to a veterinary neurologist.
That is when they learned the truth. His vision was perfect, and the vet revealed that Don Luis just liked to ignore people when he wasn’t in a good mood.
“He examined him and told us his vision is perfect,” said Santander. “He just enjoys ignoring people when he’s not in a good mood. We were surprised.” Santander explained, “We found it funny, because we treat him with so much love and respect, and he doesn’t seem to appreciate that.”
Now, they understand his mood better and don’t demand too much from him when he seems uninterested.

His Story Became a Social Media Hit
Once Don Luis’s story was shared online, people couldn’t stop talking about him. Comments flooded in from all over the world.
A person said, “He seems annoyed that he got caught.” Another wrote, “My husband just said this is my spirit animal.” Many others joined in, with one saying, “Cat behaviour,” and another adding, “I wish he were my best friend.”
People shared their own experiences, too. A user wrote, “I thought my dog was deaf when she came home because she did not answer and when I took her to the vet I was told she was healthy.”
Don Luis became a relatable icon for people who love animals that enjoy their own space.
Don Luis is Still Looking For a Loving Home
Don Luis, now 6 years old, needs a forever home where his independent spirit will be respected. “His ideal family is a family of adults who respect his personal space and give him lots of love,” said Santander. The team at Fundación Santas Patitas describes him as healthy, sweet, and full of personality. “He’s the kind of dog who’ll love you quietly,” the shelter said.
He doesn’t demand attention but appreciates kindness in his own way.
Don Luis is proof that sometimes love doesn’t have to be loud; it can be calm and quiet, just like him.
