PSV Eindhoven will have the honor of hosting one of the first fixtures in this season’s Champions League on Tuesday when it welcomes Union Saint-Gilloise to the Philips Stadion. And the matchup presents a head-to-head befitting the occasion as the reigning Dutch champion hosts the defending kings of Belgium’s top flight.
And it just so happens both teams have picked up this campaign pretty much where they left off last term, as each heads into this clash atop their respective domestic divisions. PSV has won four of its five games in the Eredivisie thus far and boasts the finest attack in the Netherlands, while Union is the only team still undefeated in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League after seven games.
However, Sebastien Pocognoli will be hurt by the absence of suspended striker Raul Florucz, who is one of the joint-top scorers in the Pro League so far this term. That’s in addition to injured forward Mohammed Fuseini, while winger Sofiane Boufal is also expected to sit out with a hamstring complaint.
Defender Mauro Junior and attacker Alassane Plea are the absentees for PSV boss Peter Bosz, meanwhile. Center-back Armando Obispo was also taken off early on in Saturday’s 5-3 win at NEC Nijmegen and may not be risked here.
