Former WNBA star to headline Saginaw County youth camp

SAGINAW TWP., MI — Equal Access to Training will host its first EmPowerHer Camp on Saturday, Nov. 8, bringing former WNBA standout and Team USA gold medalist Mistie Bass to Saginaw Township to inspire young girls through basketball and leadership development.
The one-day event at Center Courts in Saginaw Township aims to equip participants with confidence, discipline and resilience for success both on and off the court, organizers said.
The program will include basketball skill development, fitness training, mentorship and motivational talks from professional athletes, coaches and community leaders.
Bass, who will serve as the event’s featured guest, plans to share her personal journey of overcoming challenges to achieve her dreams.
“I grew up in a one-parent home, and things weren’t always easy,” Bass said in a statement. “But I learned early that my circumstances didn’t define me. Through faith, hard work, and great mentors, I was able to overcome my obstacles and reach my dreams. I’m really looking forward to speaking with the girls at the EmPowerHer Camp — to remind them that they can do anything they set their minds to.”
Dell Johnson, executive director of Equal Access to Training, in a statement emphasized the camp’s broader mission beyond athletic training:
“This camp is about much more than basketball,” Johnson said. “It’s about showing young women that they are strong, capable, and deserving of every opportunity. Having a role model like Mistie Bass sharing her story brings that message to life.”
The camp costs $19.99 per participant, which includes a t-shirt, instruction and leadership workshop. Registration is available online through Eventbrite.
