NJ Transit suspends some rail and bus service as nor'easter hits region

NJ Transit suspended rail and bus service in parts of the state as a dangerous nor’easter continued moving through the region Monday morning.
North Jersey Coast Line service was suspended between Bay Head and Long Branch, the agency said. Atlantic City Rail Line service was suspended between Atlantic City and Philadelphia 30th Street Station.
Service on both lines was expected to be suspended all day Monday.
At Newark Liberty International Airport, airline travel appeared to be getting back to normal with no cancellations and just six delayed flights as of 8 a.m., according to FlightAware.com.
Heavy rain, strong winds and flooding prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to issue ground delays for several airports throughout Sunday. Most flights in and out of New Jersey appeared to be back on track early Monday.
In addition to train services, NJ Transit suspended several bus routes in South Jersey, while other bus routes were detoured due to flooding on Monday.
NJ Transit said the service adjustments were made “out of an abundance of caution” for passengers and employees.
The transit agency said it was cross-honoring tickets systemwide for all rail, light rail and bus services throughout the day.
The powerful storm brought high winds, heavy rainfall and coastal flooding to the region.
Another round of moderate to major flooding is likely at the Jersey Shore during Monday afternoon’s high tide and winds will continue to gust up to 50 mph this morning, according to the latest forecast.
The National Weather Service said to expect wind gusts of 30 mph at times inland, and near 40 mph to 50 mph through the morning near the coast.
“The strongest winds have already occurred, but some gusts near 30-40 mph will remain possible area-wide today,” the National Weather Service said, adding winds are expected to diminish throughout the day.
