COLUMBIA — An employee at Richland Northeast High School was arrested Sept. 15 after school resource officers found a gun in her bag as she went through the campus metal detectors, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Crystal Gamble, 36, was charged with carrying a weapon on school property. The sheriff’s department says she forgot the gun was in her bag.
She did not appear on the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center’s inmate roster the morning of Sept. 16. Information about a bail was not available at that time in the county’s online court records.
A spokeswoman for the Richland Two school district did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
An employee of the same name is listed as a secretary on the school’s website.
The high school, located on Brookfield Road to the west of Interstate 77, has about 1,300 students, according to the most recent data from the S.C. Department of Education.
