I played under Gary Neville - Man United should try him as Ruben Amorim's replacement

Gary Neville has been backed by one of his former Valencia players to replace Ruben Amorim as Manchester United boss. Despite a disastrous stint in the dugout for the Spanish outfit in 2015, Alvaro Negredo believes the former defender would be a suitable candidate for the head coach position at Old Trafford . Neville was sacked by Valencia after just 28 games, during which they won only three in La Liga . Speaking to Coin Poker , Negredo explained why the Sky Sports pundit would be a good fit. The former Manchester City striker said: “It also depends on the situation at Manchester United. I think he was a very important player for Manchester United. “He’s a player who gave a lot to English football. Perhaps, similar to Valencia at that time , it’s a United team who haven’t been consistently at the top for a long time, and perhaps now wouldn’t be the best moment. “But it is also true that changes come when the team is not in a good moment. I would try him, because, as I say, as a coach, I did like him.” Since leaving Valencia, Neville has not returned to management, choosing instead to concentrate on his punditry work with Sky Sports and his business interests, including part-ownership of Salford City. Negredo admitted that he expects Neville to one day return to the dugout. The Spaniard added: “Yes, it surprises me because I considered him capable and qualified. Perhaps in Spain at that time, due to the language barrier, he didn’t get more opportunities . “But in the Premier League , I would have given him more, based on my experience. For me, he was a good coach who, as I said, came with a very good attitude and a desire to improve. “He had been a player, so he also possesses knowledge of the football world. These are decisions that perhaps he didn’t want to continue experiencing, and he hasn’t had the opportunity to continue coaching.” Whether Neville’s next managerial appointment materialises at Old Trafford remains uncertain. However, as things stand, United are backing Amorim despite the club’s dismal beginning to the season. United presently find themselves in 10th position following victories in just three of their initial seven matches this campaign. Amorim’s squad return to action next weekend when they face bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
