BAY CITY, MI – A look at the high school sports scene in Bay County for Sept. 15, 2025. Bay County coaches are asked to submit results, highlights and comments the night of each event by emailing lthomps2@mlive.com.
SOCCER: GLENN OUTDUELS GARBER
John Glenn maintained its edge on Essexville Garber.
But, this time, it was just a slight one.
In a far closer battle than Glenn’s three-goal victory three weeks ago, the Bobcats turned back Garber 3-2 in a Tri-Valley Conference Red rematch.
After being blanked in seven of its past eight games, Garber got on the board first on a penalty kick by Seth Betzold, set up by Izaiah El-Amin.

But Glenn (7-4-1, 3-2-1) countered with a fury, with Landon Beson Montoya, Paul Nori and Brayden Lang each delivering a goal for the 3-1 halftime lead.
Betzold added his second goal in the second half to dice the margin to one, but the Dukes couldn’t get the equalizer.
“I am really proud of the team for working hard until the final whistle,” Garber coach Brent Betzold said. “They continue to improve and I can feel that good results are coming for the team.”
The Dukes (1-8-1, 0-6) got a defensive highlight from keeper Robert Raushi, who made a diving save on a penalty kick.
SOCCER: PINCONNING DENIED UPSET
Pinconning made a push to knock off Jack Pine Conference title contender Ogemaw Heights, coming up one goal short in a 2-1 setback.
The Spartans (4-7, 3-3) struck five minutes into the contest on a goal by Max Wieland but never found the net again. Ogemaw (7-5-1, 5-1) scored two second-half goals then fended off Pinconning down the stretch.
Trevin Billingsley and Ryan Kowalczyk fronted a strong Pinconning defense.
SOCCER: STANDISH FINDS ANOTHER SPARK
Standish-Sterling has no shortage of scorers.
But it was happy to see somebody new join the fun.
Arthur Vieira Carvalho de Oliveira delivered a breakout performance, coming through with a three-goal game to lead the Panthers to a 6-0 victory over Clare in a key Jack Pine Conference game.
“We are a really balanced team this season on the attack,” Standish coach Doug Dahn said. “Each time out it seems it is a different player stepping up and leading the way.”
The first-place Panthers (8-2, 5-1) also got goals from Landon Nixon, Carson Koin and Ben Briggs in the win. Koin, Jacek Barwinski and Lucas Verdusco added assists.
Verdusco notched seven saves and Izak Waldie added two as Standish posted its sixth shutout of the season.
GOLF: CENTRAL NINTH IN SVL
Bay City Central took on a tough challenge at Davison Country Club, posting a ninth-place finish in the fourth Saginaw Valley League Jamboree.
“The girls tried very hard today,” Central coach Kurt Legner said. “The course was not easy.”
Kallie Kaczmarek led the Wolves, carding a personal-best round of 110. Reagan Schacher shot 113, Natalya Ziolkowski 132 and Layla Cookin 137 as Central posted a 492 team total.
