It’s the latest road closure to accommodate Mayo Clinic’s $5 billion expansion in downtown Rochester. Two streets are set to close Sunday.
The closure comes as motorists navigate closures on 2nd St. SW for construction of the Link Bus Rapid Transit line and underground tunnels to connect transit stations to Mayo Clinic’s downtown and St. Mary’s campuses.
Intersection Near Mayo Clinic Downtown Rochester Campus to Close Until Early Next Year
5th Ave. NW will be closed to through traffic between 2nd St. NW and West Center St. until early 2026.
Mayo Clinic’s Construction website also says 1st St. NW will be closed between 4th Ave. and 6th Ave. NW until early next year.
The closure is to accommodate underground utility work for the massive expansion project. Mayo’s construction website said access to the West Parking Ramp will be maintained during the closure.
A stretch of West Center St. between 1st Ave. and 3rd Ave. NW will be reduced to a one-way westbound road beginning August 16.
Traffic control workers will be stationed at key intersections during peak travel times while the work occurs, Mayo says.
