About 328 trainee police sub-inspectors of the 46th batch at Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) participated in a ‘shramadaan’ activity to clean up plastic waste from the surroundings of Kukkarahalli Lake in the city on Saturday.
Taken up as part of the Social Service Club of KPA, the activity was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore N.K. Lokanath in the presence of KPA Director Chennabasavanna S.L.
A large quanity of plastic waste was collected during the exercise. Officials from Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) were also present on the occasion.
In his address to the trainees, Assistant Director of KPA S.N. Sandesh Kumar, who is also the co-ordinator of the Social Service Club, spoke about the threat posed to the environment and humanity from micro-plastics and single-use plastics, emphasising the need to completely ban their use.
