ANN ARBOR, MI — A nightclub in Ann Arbor just got a whole new look.
The multi-level nightclub and event space Necto, 516 E. Liberty St., erected a new sign outside its venue Oct. 1, owner Scot Greig confirmed.
The bright orange sign has the venue name in bold, capitalized letters running vertically down the sign.
Greig explained the venue added the sign to bring greater visibility to the venue.
“If you’re coming from any direction other than directly at us, you couldn’t really see where we were at,” Greig, 58, explained.
He also shared the new sign would highlight the venue as an entertainment site and is part of the going-out experience.
“With Pinball Pete’s moving in next door, they’re going to have a new sign up going up soon, so we wanted our sign to be up and ready for that,” Greig said. “It’s a great addition to our neighborhood and the sign is important, it’s the overall look.”
Necto runs weekly events to cater to various Ann Arbor residents, such as Factory Mondays, Pride Fridays and Frequency Saturdays.
Greig explained the sign is one of many to fill the downtown Ann Arbor skyline, including signs at the Michigan Theatre, Knights Steakhouse Downtown, Tomukun Noodle Bar, Tio’s and other businesses.
Nick Caron, general manager of Necto, said the sign adds to the character of Downtown Ann Arbor.
“Most of the businesses on this block are independently owned, so that’s something special and unique, especially for Ann Arbor,” Caron, 39, said.
Ann Arbor officials approved the sign earlier this year, according to Greig.
The sign, designed by Ann Arbor-based company Chalou DeSigns, is in orange to match the company’s colors, Greig shared.
He said the sign has been a project for 20 years but was not erected earlier due to cost restraints, past lighting and engineering issues.
Greig said he has received positive feedback on the sign, with some people enjoying its retro look.
Greig and Caron shared the sign will have special effects, which have yet to be added.
