Vera to host sixth National Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament

VERA will be host to a special athletic event, which will see the participation of around 700 gymnasts from across the country: the sixth edition of the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament, taking place in the Levantine municipality, will arrive on Saturday, October 18, and excitement for the event is already rising to a fever pitch.

A blowout gymnastics gathering, in a sports tourism hotspot

The mayor of Vera, Alfonso García, along with the technical director of the Vera Rhythmic Gymnastics Sports Club, Ana Raquel Archilla, and the town councillor for Sports, Antonio Soler, announced the details of the highly anticipated tournament that Vera will once more be a host to.

The event will see talented gymnasts at the top of their field from various areas in Spain, including Madrid, Murcia, Toledo, Melilla and a variety of Andalucian provinces. The morning and afternoon of October 18 will be filled with excitement and nail-biting competition as the programme covers different categories and levels, both on a regional and national scale.

Beginning at 9:00am, the programme will kick off with the Base Cup events. From 12:00pm onwards, Base group performances will take centre stage. After a short break, the competition will resume at 4:00pm with the Cup and Pre-Cup categories, and these, along with the Promises of Andalucia groups will close out the event at around 8:30pm.

A special guest, participating for the first time: the prestigious Club Vallecas

One of the most esteemed participating groups in the event is the First Category team from Club Vallecas, a prestigious gymnastics club that is competing in the tournament for the first time. The organisers are particularly full of pride at their participation, as the team is highly regarded in the gymnastics world.

The Vera Rhythmic Gymnastics Club will also see participation from its own teams: Benjamín, Infantil Mini Group and Pre-Cup Junior, who will also be preparing for the upcoming Andalucian Gymnastics Federation Trophy, in Cordoba on November 1 and 2.

Said mayor García, “hosting competitions of this kind in our town represents a great boost for sports-based tourism promotion, as the event will bring together nearly 700 gymnasts from all corners of the country, most of them accompanied by their families, with all the positive impact that entails for our businesses and hospitality establishments.”

Vera, one of the major sports hubs of Almeria

The tournament has become a well-known and highly anticipated event in the Vera sporting calendar, and continues to mark the region – and indeed the whole of Almeria – as a major sports tourism hub of Andalucia. Just at the beginning of the month, Vera also celebrated another successful edition of the Vera Triathlon, in which hundreds of athletes participated to compete, have fun, and show off their athletic prowess in what has quickly become one of Almeria’s most sought-after sports tourism municipalities.
