Live updates: Trump presidency and UK state visit

The president is traveling today across the Atlantic for a UK state visit, but DC remains busy for the Trump administration and Congress.
Here are the latest headlines:
FBI Director Kash Patel will face lawmakers today for the first of two highly anticipated hearings, as his agency has been under the microscope for its handling of the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s murder and the release of some Jeffrey Epstein files.
Trump said yesterday that he’s taking executive action to establish a “Memphis Safe Task Force” as his administration intensifies its efforts to crack down on crime across the nation’s major cities. And after earlier focusing on Chicago — and then backing off — Trump said he’d send a similar task force to the Windy City next.
House GOP leaders quietly included a provision in a rule last night to restrict the House’s ability to challenge Trump’s tariff authority until March 31. The measure was adopted by the House Rules Committee and heads to the floor for a vote as soon as today.
Trump announced he plans to file a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times, without providing further details.

President Donald Trump arrives in the United Kingdom later today. But the pageantry really gets underway tomorrow, according to a schedule released by Buckingham Palace.
When Trump and first lady Melania Trump arrive at the grounds of Windsor Castle, just outside London, they’ll be greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales — William and Catherine — who represent the future of the royal family.
From there, the Trumps will meet Charles and Queen Camilla as a royal salute is fired from Windsor Castle’s lawn. They’ll board their carriages and proceed through the Windsor estate toward the castle, with horses and riders alongside and the military bands lining the route.
After extensive troop inspections and lunch with the extended royal family, Trump and the first lady will spend some time in the Green Drawing Room looking at items from the royal collection. They’ll lay a wreath at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II in St. George’s Chapel. And, in the evening, the centerpiece event: a state banquet at Windsor Castle.
There will be a day of business on Thursday, when Trump will travel to Chequers — the prime minister’s country house in Buckinghamshire — for talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
They’ll be joined by a host of technology CEOs, who will be on hand for new tech partnership announcements and the unveiling of tens of billions of dollars in new investments, a US official said.
