Prince Harry’s Californian ‘ polo brother’ Nacho Figueras has shown his close bond with the royal after sharing a birthday tribute post for him yesterday.

The Duke of Sussex, celebrated his 41st birthday in Montecito – following a four-day trip to the UK – and was greeted back home with public messages from loved ones including his polo pal, as well as his wife Meghan Markle.

The Argentine player, who is dubbed the David Beckham of the sport, took to his Instagram account to share an affectionate snap of himself and Prince Harry celebrating winning the Lisle Nixon Memorial trophy Santa Barbara in 2022.

Nacho simply wrote ‘Happy Birthday’ under the beaming snap of him and his close friend.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex marked the occasion with a tribute to the ‘birthday boy’ on her Instagram account.

On Monday, the mother-of-two, 44, posted a picture of her husband that was released by the Palace on the occasion of his 31st birthday a decade ago.

The throwback snap was taken during an official engagement on the airfield at Goodwood Aerodrome in 2015, as he was shown a Spitfire Aircraft.

The Royal Family’s social media accounts did not mark Harry’s birthday, which is in line with tradition because public good wishes are not typically shared for non-working royals.

Harry’s ‘Global Sussex Supporters’ have, meanwhile, shared their own tributes to the Duke under the hashtag #HappyBirthdayPrinceHarry on X/Twitter.

One person wrote: ‘A very happy birthday to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex! Husband, father and philanthropist. A great advocate for veterans, children and people in need.’

‘Happy Birthday to the People’s Prince, HRH Prince Harry!’ another added. ‘Wishing you a day filled with love, laughter & purpose. Your Global Sussex Supporters celebrate you today and always.’

It’s thought that the Montecito-based royal’s friendship with father-of-four Nacho dates back to 2007.

In September 2019, the polo player, who witnessed the early days of Harry and Meghan’s romance, and was later a guest at their wedding, appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ show to announce that he would ‘defend his friends’ with his life.

The millionaire appears totally at ease with mentioning his friendship with the royal in interviews, for in that same year, he told Town and Country magazine: ‘What I like the most about [Harry] is how real he is and how serious he is about improving life for kids that have not had the blessings that we’ve had.’

He also described Meghan as ‘incredible’ and praised the former actress for ‘giving up everything for the man she loves’ in the Sussexes’ Netflix documentary.

During the Harry and Meghan docuseries, Nacho also revealed how the prince confided in him after sharing a first date with Meghan.

Yesterday, supporters shared their tributes online under the trending hashtag #HappyBirthdayPrinceHarry

He described how him and his wife, Delfina Blaquier, went for dinner with Harry shortly after the prince met his future wife in 2017.

Nacho said: ‘He looked at us and said, ‘Guys, I met a girl, we’ve just met but I think this might be the one’. You could tell right away that those eyes were those of someone who’d fallen in love.’

In 2022, he shared a post praising the Duke on Instagram, writing: ‘What a joy to see you smile and be so happy. I love being your teammate.’

He also took to his account in May 2019 to prove his loyalty to his friend, stating: ‘The world thinks they know everything about this man. I have been fortunate enough to spend enough time over the years to learn and understand the man he really is.’

The polo player went on to describe the prince as being kind, generous, compassionate and ‘constantly thinking about how to make the world a better place.’

The Duke of Sussex’s 41st birthday celebration came as he landed back in the US after a successful trip to the UK last week.

Prince Harry’s spokesman said he ‘loved’ being back in the UK and ‘catching up’ with his good causes and friends.

The Duke wrapped up his trip with a visit to a charity founded in memory of his mother, Princess Diana, one day after reuniting with the King for the first time in 19 months.

His spokesperson gave an upbeat review of the UK tour, saying: ‘He’s obviously loved being back in the UK, catching up with old friends, colleagues and just generally being able to support the incredible work of the causes that mean so much to him.’

It was the first time the prince had seen his father in 19 months, and although he said the ‘focus really has to be on my dad’ in the next year, he declared his ‘conscience is clear’.

During a sit-down interview with The Guardian in Kyiv, he said: ‘I know that [speaking out] annoys some people and it goes against the narrative.

‘The book? It was a series of corrections to stories already out there. One point of view had been put out and it needed to be corrected.’

He added: ‘I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.’

‘It is not about revenge, it is about accountability.’

Harry also revealed the words of wisdom his wife, Meghan, gave him were to ‘just stick to the truth’.

Harry’s 416-page book Spare made a series of jaw-dropping claims and laid bare the rift within the Royal Family.

One accusation aimed at his brother accused William of leaving Harry with visible ‘scrapes and bruises’ after an alleged attack.

He claimed: ‘[William] grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor.’

It also claimed William teased Harry about his panic attacks and that King Charles put his own interests above his second son, and saw Harry reference taking cocaine, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms and his enjoyment of the TV show Friends.

The Duke of Sussex’s controversial memoir became the UK’s fastest-selling non-fiction book ever after being published by Penguin Random House in January 2023.
