Jets Predicted to Replace Justin Fields with Breakout QB

The New York Jets are the worst team in the NFL through five weeks, though they’re predicted to address its losing ways by installing a breakout quarterback in place of Justin Fields next season.
Dante Moore began his collegiate career with the UCLA Bruins back in 2023 to mixed results. He played in nine games that season, throwing for 1,610 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Moore transferred to Oregon the next season and played behind third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, who is now the starter for the Cleveland Browns as a rookie.
Moore took over as the Ducks’ starter in 2025 and has had an excellent campaign through five games. He is currently completing 74.6% of his passes and has thrown for 1,210 yards, 14 touchdowns and just one interception.

During a recent appearance on “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” The Ringer’s Toddy McShay dubbed Moore the best passer in college football in 2025.
“The thing I’m most shocked about, because I didn’t have him on my preseason rankings … Dante Moore from Oregon is the best passer of the football in all of college football. He’s what the NFL is looking for,” McShay said. “I’m all-in on this guy.”
Daniel Flick of Sports Illustrated in his 2026 mock draft that published on Thursday predicted Moore as the Jets’ No. 1 overall pick and the replacement for starting QB Justin Fields.
“Aaron Glenn is the first coach in Jets history to start his tenure 0–5. While Justin Fields is far from the only issue, New York needs better quarterback play,” Flick wrote. “Moore, a redshirt sophomore, is one of several contenders to finish the season as QB1. The 6′ 3″, 206-pound Moore is athletic, has the arm talent to make every throw and creates explosive plays both inside and outside structure. Moore, 20, has proven he’s mature beyond his years — a necessary trait to survive with the Jets.”
