Omaha World-Herald writers Evan Bland, Tom Shatel, Wilson Moore, Ben Doody and Sam McKewon share their score prediction for Nebraska vs. Michigan State.
Ben Doody: Nebraska 27, Maryland 17
This isn’t a game where style points are required for the Huskers. Win the game by any means necessary, and I’m buying stock.
I’m waiting for NU to play a full game: no huge lapses, no quarters where the Huskers look like the inferior team.
I’m betting they’ll at least move in that direction Saturday. They win, cover the spread and get to 5-1.
Sam McKewon: Nebraska 23, Maryland 14
After a half in College Park, fans might want to go tuck into a plate of rock crab than watch this rock fight between two stout defenses.
But someone’s going to walk out of SECU Stadium with a win, and it’s going to be the team that runs the ball better, eats up clock and converts a few manageable third downs into more touchdowns and field goals.
And that’ll be the Huskers, who get their first true road win since 2024 Purdue.
Evan Bland: Nebraska 24, Maryland 17
This is a good matchup for the Nebraska defense, which pits its dominant secondary against a pass-happy Terps attack led by a true freshman quarterback.
Not necessarily so for the NU offensive line that’s surrendered a dozen sacks in two Big Ten games and now draws a Maryland bunch that leads the league in that category.
Nebraska’s edge might be more sustained offensive drives and winning in the red zone.
Tom Shatel: Nebraska 24, Maryland 20
Another week of making plays, surviving.
Wilson Moore: Maryland 20, Nebraska 17
Five games into the season, Nebraska’s strengths and weaknesses are both obvious.
The Huskers’ pass defense is elite. Dylan Raiola can make plays at quarterback.
But it’s hard to win on the road with a shaky offensive line. Nebraska survived a seriously flawed performance at home against Michigan State. Maryland appears to be better.
