Faster Trade Ahead: Customs Lab Now Operational at Azakhel

Pakistan Customs has inaugurated a new laboratory at the Azakhel Dry Port, marking a major step toward improving trade efficiency and reducing processing delays. The facility is equipped to conduct testing for fabrics, plastics, edible products, dyes, and plastic-related materials, meeting a long-standing demand from importers in the region.

Previously, trade samples had to be sent to laboratories in Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad for testing, a process that took several days and increased operational costs. With the new lab now functional, nearly 80 per cent of trade samples will be analysed locally, significantly cutting down clearance time and reducing expenses for importers.

Importers and business representatives have welcomed the move, describing it as a vital initiative for smoother trade operations. Junaid Altaf, President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce, commended Pakistan Customs for establishing the laboratory, adding that it will not only reduce dwell time but also enhance transparency and integrity in sample verification.

Officials confirmed that another state-of-the-art laboratory will soon be operational at the Torkham Border Station under the Integrated Transit Trade Management System (ITTMS) Project, further strengthening Pakistan’s border trade infrastructure and quality assurance systems.
