Adele White is well-known and respected by many Howick people for her work with families during 33 years as a police officer, and through her former role as a childbirth and women’s health educator.
With commitment and excellent local knowledge, White continues to be a hard-working advocate for Howick residents as an active member of the Howick Local Board (formerly Howick Community Board) spanning 24 years.
“Having been born and bred here in Howick and descending from the Fencibles who settled here in 1847, Howick is in my blood,” she says.
“I want our much-loved place to be safe, well resourced, vibrant and welcoming for all ages, whilst preserving its history, beauty and the strong sense of community Howick has.”
As a community leader White interacts with many of Howick’s well-established organisations and provides encouragement to newer groups.
She is a member of three community trusts, patron of Howick RSA, serves as a JP and gives volunteer time to support other groups where she can.
Hoping for re-election to her board role, White will continue to question council spending, seek a fair rates-spend for Howick, and will promote the procurement of council supplies and services from local businesses and tradespeople.
She believes priority must be given to Howick’s ageing infrastructure, with recent weather occurrences having highlighted inadequacies throughout Auckland, and she will continue also to advocate to Auckland Council for attention to coastal erosion.
White supports a programme of updating Howick’s well used community facilities and supports weekly rubbish collections.
“I know I share with many locals the desire for a safe, clean, well-managed, up-to-date Howick with an exciting, economically prosperous main street, and well cared-for, beautiful, usable parks and beaches,” she says.
“Howick is one of the only pretty destination villages left in Auckland, visited by people from far and wide, and is the place those who grew up here love to return to. We must protect this.
“Please vote for Adele White, and #weknowhowick team for Howick Local Board.”
