Ranchi: The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) will now provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to families of patients who die during treatment. The decision was approved during a Governing Body meeting held on Thursday, chaired by retired Justice Amareshwar Sahay. Unlike earlier procedures, where payments were often delayed due to bank transfer processes, the amount will now be disbursed instantly via UPI at the hospital itself. According to hospital officials, the projected annual expenditure for this initiative is around Rs 7 crore.Also Read:RIMS Ranchi hosts 3-day training on safe childbirthSpeaking to TOI, Health Minister Irfan Ansari said, “The purchase of five ‘Moksh’ vehicles has been approved to facilitate the safe and fast transportation of the bodies of deceased patients to their homes. Additional vehicles would be procured based on need.”He added that many patients are referred from private hospitals in critical condition, which often leads to fatalities. The governing body also approved a salary hike for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) staff, along with an increased monthly stipend of Rs 30,000 for MBBS and BDS interns, bringing it in line with top-tier institutions such as AIIMS. In a bid to bolster medical education and meet the growing demand for qualified doctors, RIMS has reapplied to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to increase its MBBS seat intake from 180 to 250.Also Read:Jharkhand Govt doctors demand long-pending stipend hikeThe institute has also applied for an increase in PG (super speciality) seats, with 50 new seats under consideration. In the latest decision, four seats have already been approved for expansion, reports UNI.Furthermore, the governing body approved the creation of four new super-specialty seats, which will not only benefit students but also enhance advanced patient care services in the region. Additionally, the Governing Body cleared the path for staff appointments at the Regional Ophthalmic Centre, pending approval of roster clearance from the personnel department.
