Milwaukee comes off its third straight first-round playoff exit, losing in five games to the Indiana Pacers last spring. Everything about the Bucks centers around two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who remains committed to the franchise he has played for since 2013. The Bucks began their roster shuffle when they traded Khris Middleton at the trade deadline in February for Kyle Kuzma and continued when they opted to buy out Damian Lillard in July to free up the cap space to sign longtime Pacer center Myles Turner.
The Pistons opted to add veterans around the margins of their young core, bringing in Caris LeVert, Javonte Green, and Duncan Robinson. Detroit played with house money last season, more than tripling its win total from 14 in 2023-24 to 44 last season and taking the New York Knicks to six games in the first round of the playoffs. Cade Cunningham emerged as an All-Star in his fourth NBA season and was a third-team All-NBA selection as well.
Both teams won road games on Monday, with Detroit taking a 128-112 decision over the Memphis Grizzlies and the Bucks beating the Miami Heat 103-93.
