The midfielder was left on the floor before medics came to treat the motionless player.

Incredibly the medics lifted him off the ground placed his arms around their shoulders and made him walk to the medical transport vehicle in disturbing scenes before being taken to hospital.

The opposition player, midfielder Zhang Zhixiong, was handed a yellow card following the incident.

And on Monday, his club issued a worrying statement stating he was at a “high-risk of paraplegia” after suffering multiple fractures in his neck and sustaining extensive nerve damage.

Paraplegia is the inability to voluntarily move the lower parts of the body.

On Wednesday, Guangxi Pingguo provided an update on his condition, confirming he was stable after undergoing surgery.

“Guangxi Pingguo FC sincerely thanks all fans and all walks of life for their concern and support for Samuel Asamoah,” the team said.

“His recovery progress will be announced in due course after follow-up examinations.”

Asamoah, who has six international appearances for Togo, spent the majority of his career playing in Belgium before moving to Romania in 2021.

He then moved to China in 2024, playing for Qingdao Red Lions for a season before joining Guangxi Pingguo.
