Actor-filmmaker Dhanush is gearing up for his next release Idli Kadai. Recently, the makers organised music launch event which was attended by the actor too. He opened up about the inspiration behind the unusual title. The National Award-winning star said that the film’s name is deeply personal and rooted in his childhood memories.
Speaking at the music launch, Dhanush opened up about the unusual title and said, “An idli kadai is a very important aspect of my childhood. We didn’t have any money during our childhood to buy idlis from the idli kadai in our place. So we started collecting flowers from the fields and sold them for money. My sister, cousins, and I would wake up at 4 am to do this every day so that we can have idlis from that shop. Nothing to this day beats the taste of those 4-5 idlis we bought with our hard-earned money. This film is my tribute to that place.”
About the storyline:
He also spoked about the story, “I thought what would happen if I made a film revolving around an idli kadai. It’s a story not only about that one store, but inspired by the whole village I grew up in and some very interesting real characters that impacted me strongly from a young age. Using those characters and elements, I created a fictional story for Idli Kadai. It’s a film about our culture and my roots.”
Director R Parthiban Is All Praise For Dhanush, Pens Special Note For Actor
Taking to his Instagram handle, Idli Kadai director R Parthiban shared a video in which he is seen gifting flowers and a packet to Dhanush and also penned a note reading, “’Mischievous’ Parthiban A degree from Missssschivous Mr Dhanush! Mischief is when liked, or when liked! I still sing to be loved and unsung by fans. I would love to taste a mini Idly at the ‘Idly Shop’. First experience working with Mr. Dhanush. Song Enjaami Thandhaane Is A Festive Treat
Actor-director Dhanush has penned and sung the song Enjaami Thandhaane. The soulful song is a vibrant number that adds a fresh shade to the film’s narrative. The video is giving festive vibes. The film features Arun Vijay, Prakash Raj, Nithya Menen, Rajkiran, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, R. Parthiban, and Samuthirakani, alongside Dhanush in the lead role.
About the film:
It is an upcoming Tamil-language action drama written, directed, and co-produced by Dhanush under Wunderbar Films, in collaboration with Dawn Pictures. The film features Dhanush and Nithya Menen in the lead roles, with Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, R. Parthiban, P. Samuthirakani, and Rajkiran in supporting roles. The project was officially announced in September 2024 under the working titles D52 and DD4, marking Dhanush’s 52nd film as an actor and his fourth as a director. The official title, Idli Kadai, was revealed shortly after the announcement. Principal photography began the same month, primarily in Chennai, with select portions filmed in Thailand. The shoot concluded by late April 2025.
