Students from Madurai Corporation, government schools and a few private educational institutions were taken on a two-day educational trip to ISRO with the support of Rotarians.
On return, the students from the Corporation schools held an interaction with Commissioner Chitra Vijayan on Thursday, officials said.
Expressing happiness over the trip, the students narrated the joy of flying and said that it was a great opportunity given to them. “We saw the Birla planetarium in Chennai. On the second day, the students said that they were inspired by the way the theories of projectile motion, liquid propulsion and launch systems and among other facilities…” In fact, a girl student said that she had got an opportunity for internship in ISRO,” the officials said.
Many of the participants said that they were interested in becoming a scientist and were impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities and technology in the ISRO.
The Commissioner appreciated the Rotarians for taking up the project, which had created not only an awareness, but also given a new hope to the youngsters to set their professional goals. The Rotarians said that they would strive to continue the project every year.
The students, numbering a little over 30, flew to Chennai by a scheduled airline from Madurai. After visiting the Birla planetarium, they drove to the ISRO facility in Sriharikota the second day after camping at Chennai. They returned home by road, the Rotarians said.
