French-inspired restaurant in Ferndale closing this month after 2-year run

FERNDALE, Mich. – A French-inspired restaurant in Ferndale is closing its doors after more than 2 years in business.
Coeur’s announced on social media that its last day of service will be Oct. 19. Owner and chef Jordan Smith said the economic climate is less than ideal for the restaurant.
“Simply put: We can’t keep to our mission without raising prices beyond what makes sense for our guests,” Smith said. “So, after a lot of painful reflection, we’ve made the tough decision to close Coeur.”
Coeur opened in Aug. 2023 on W. Nine Mile Rd. in the place that was formerly occupied by Italian restaurant Assaggi Bistro for more than 20 years before it closed on Dec. 31, 2022.
“When we opened Coeur, we had noble ideals: to cook with the best products, to pay our team fairly, and to create a truly special dining experience here in Ferndale that was welcoming to all,” Smith said in the post.
Coeur, French for “heart,” offers dinner and brunch. The dinner menu features items like wagyu steak tartare, grilled octopus and a Coeur burger. For brunch, Coeur offers sourdough pancakes, brisket hash, seafood grits and steak and eggs.
The last day of service will be Oct. 19. The full post can be read below:
