PC Shipment Growth Loses Momentum In America While Asia-Pacific Region Drives The Sales By Double-Digit Growth
The latest data for PC shipments by IDC reveals that the uncertainties created by US import tariffs have caused a decline in PC shipments in Q2 and Q3 2025.
Lenovo Sees the Highest Growth in Q3 2025, Taking Over 25% of Total PC Market Share; Japan Drives the PC Shipments Significantly in the Asia-Pacific Region
The PC shipments saw one of the strongest growth rates in the NA region in the first quarter of 2025. Compared to Q3 and Q4 2024, the shipments saw a double-digit growth in Q1 2025 due to uncertainties caused by the US tariffs. However, this growth soon came to a halt as a result of “tariffs shock and macroeconomic uncertainties”, reports IDC. The PC shipments in the Q2 and Q3 2025 in America declined significantly and are now closer to the growth rate of Q3 2024.
While the entire market is continuing on a very strong year, fueled by Windows 11 transition and the need to replace an aging installed base, the results by regions are telling different stories,
In particular, the North American market continues to be impacted by the US import tariffs shock and by macroeconomic uncertainties. While existent, the demand for newer PCs ready for Windows 11 is likely to push well into 2026.

However, the overall PC shipments have risen significantly in other regions, including AP, EMEA, and WW. The AP (Asia-Pacific) region has particularly seen a strong demand in both Q2 and Q3 2025, showing a growth of 14% year over year. This comes as a result of huge PC shipments in Japan and China, particularly in the former, which is due to two different factors. The number one reason is the Windows 10 end of support, which has caused many Japanese companies, schools, and government offices to replace their PCs with the newer Windows 11-based PCs.
The second reason is the GIGA Education Project, which is a Japanese government initiative to provide every student with a personal device, which has further boosted the PC shipments growth in the region.
The demand was driven largely by Japan’s hardware refresh linked to Windows 10 end-of-support and the GIGA education project,
Growth outside Japan was more modest — hindered by macroeconomic and political challenges and slow Windows 11 adoption — though there were pockets of opportunity from hardware refreshes of devices purchased during and before the COVID-19 pandemic.

As far as the market share is concerned, Lenovo has retained its top position and has witnessed the highest growth rate in Q3 2025, rising from 23.8% to 25.5% total market share, a staggering 17.3% growth year over year. Apple is next with 13.7% growth, but HP retains its second position at 19.8% with a good growth of 10.7%. HP saw a small growth of 2.6%, but still holds the third position with 13.3% market share (down from 14.2%). Overall, all OEMs saw some growth in Q3 2025, but it’s mostly linked to non-NA regions.
