The Calcasieu Parish School Board this week approved pay supplements for teachers and support staff.
Each year, the board votes on employee supplements that are distributed throughout the fall and winter months. One of these is the annual salary supplement. Each year, CPSB divides excess sales tax funds that accumulated in the General Fund to provide one-time salary supplements for CPSB employees.
On their October check, teachers will receive $8,570. Support staff will receive $6,000.
Teri Johnson, president of the SWLA Federation of Teachers, said the size of the supplement was a happy “surprise.”
“Knowing that we are still on the heels of gaining all this money, we really appreciate that you are giving this to your employees,” she said. “And, in this way, it’s going to be a great treat for October 31st on a Friday. So, the kids can get all hyped up on candy over the weekend and come back to school happy, and so will the teachers.”
The board approved additional salary supplements.
In November, CPSB staff will also receive a state-allocated supplement of $2,000 for teachers and $1,000 for support staff.
Additional state supplements will be distributed to some teachers. Highly effective teachers will receive $350 on their December check.
Compass supplements for teachers will also be distributed in December. The supplement will range from $175 to $250, based on teacher evaluations. Leaders wil receive their compass supplement in February 2026.
Certified K-12 SPED and certified 6-12 math, science and teacher leaders will receive a supplement on their January 2026 check. The allocation amount has yet to be determined.
Some teachers will be required to complete literacy and numeracy training. These teachers will receive a $500 supplement.
